SHOULD I BE AFRAID?

I think I just got punked by my 7yr old. My kids really, really want a pet kitty. But I grew up in the era where a lot of black folks believed cats to be devilish, and anything furry with colored eyes made folk nervous! Well my oldest daughter made her way upstairs just now and was headed towards my room. I heard her little sissy yell to her from downstairs “where’s kitty?” My oldest replied “I’m walking kitty.” In walks my daughter dragging a stuffed toy kitty behind her. The kitty was attached to a belt. I looked down at the kitty, and then back at my daughter who immediately responded “I don’t have it tied around her neck.” And indeed she didn’t. The buckle was hooked around kitty’s “collar.”
As my daughter headed out of my room I can only tell you what was going thru my head. “Either my children are crazy, or they’re very, very special.” And I suppose the look on my face said it all ‘cause after my daughter noticed it, she took 3 steps back towards me and said – and with authority I might add - “is there a problem?” Go ahead, laugh. Yall can laugh all yall want, but “The Omen” was on tv earlier today, so don’t play. I told her “no, there’s no problem.” But “In My Mind” -- said like Heather Headley & Shannon Sanders I was thinking “HELL NAW! You aint bouts to ride your tricycle up the hall and accidentally bump me so I fall 3 flights over the railing LOL.” Seriously, my kids just might have too much time on their hands.
I guess its time for a real pet.
